During the Eid holiday, the Assa C.M.V. team traveled to Smara to visit the original Centre Michel Vieuchange centers and experience the roots of the association’s work.

The visit gave the Assa volunteers a meaningful look at where C.M.V. began. In Smara, students welcomed the team with plays, dialogues, and classroom presentations that showed their confidence, creativity, and growing language skills. Teachers also demonstrated lessons, giving volunteers the opportunity to see how C.M.V.’s communication-focused approach comes to life in the classroom.

For the volunteers, the trip was more than a school visit. They were also welcomed into the Eid celebrations with Director Lahcen’s family and friends. Sharing time, meals, conversation, and tradition during the holiday gave them a deeper experience of Sahraoui hospitality and community life.

The visit helped connect the Assa team to the wider story of C.M.V.: one association growing across southern Morocco, rooted in Smara and continuing its mission through language education, cultural exchange, and community connection.

It was a special opportunity for the volunteers to see the origins of C.M.V., meet students and teachers from the Smara centers, and experience a part of Moroccan Sahraoui culture that cannot be understood from a classroom alone.
